Mythological Tales: Defeating Evil with the Story of Holika
At the heart of Holi lies the ancient tale of Holika, a demoness from Hindu mythology, and her attempt to thwart the righteousness of Prahlad, a young prince devoted to Lord Vishnu. Prahlad's unwavering faith infuriated his tyrannical father, Hiranyakashipu, who sought to eliminate him with the help of his sister, Holika. Through deceit and trickery, Holika attempted to use her immunity to fire to destroy Prahlad. However, divine intervention ensured that it was Holika who perished in the flames, while Prahlad emerged unscathed. This poignant myth symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the power of faith to overcome adversity—a timeless theme that resonates deeply during the Holi festivities.

Power of Love and elimination of differences through the Love-Story of Krishna and Radha
Another beloved tale associated with Holi is the playful love story of Lord Krishna and Radha. Legend has it that as a young boy, Krishna, who felt self-conscious about his own darker hue, thought that Radha, with her fair complexion, would never approve of his love for her. Playfully, his mother suggested that he could change it by applying colors to her face. Thus began the tradition of applying vibrant hues during Holi—a gesture of love and affection that transcends societal norms and celebrates the beauty of diversity.
